About Makena

Eager to helping students succeed by reaching their full academic potential! The way I teach varies just a bit for each student, as I think it's vital for an indivisual to set the learning pace at which they feel will be most beneficial.

I truly enjoy building a professional relationship with my students because once I get to know you more as a person, I can then identify your goals, study habits, and the type of learner you are. With 2 years of tutoring experience, I'm confident that I can elevate you to where you need to be!

Throughout my life in school, I would notice an immense difference in my grades when I'd have a teacher who genuinely cared about their students, verses a teacher where you almost feel like they want you to fail. This realization led me to discover the love I have for tutoring. I wanted to be a positive and encouraging influence to those who may not get this from their daily teachers.

I have my GED from attending school in Oahu, I am currently getting my Associates Degree in Marketing and Merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Design, and have 2 years of tutoring experince with all ages.

About the lesson

Upon introduction, I begin this process by planning out an achieveable timeframe including the tasks at hand and the steps we'll both take to get us there. After determining how much work will be required, the pay rate is then set.

I've gotten the pleasure to work with students from the age of 5-16. The opportunity to work with kids who have special needs did not yet present itself but I would absolutely adore doing so!

I advise students to select a teacher who most speaks to their needs. The most important thing is that the student feels 100% comftorable with the person instructing them.

I'm particularly proud of the skills learned while attending college. Mastering things such as task organization and utilizing all resources to conduct proficient research are some examples of how my experience will transform those grades.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider that it's okay to articulate if a lot of work needs to be done. There is absolutley no shame in progressing at a different rate than your peers so please don't feel like you have to sugarcoat where you're at. Together we will make what seems like impossible, possible. :)
