About James

Hi! My name's James and I'm 23. Through school I wanted to learn to be a drummer because I love rock/alternative music, but all the teachers were jazz drummers, and couldn't play the way I wanted to! So I had to take matters into my own hands and learn largely on my own. For this reason, I'm keen to help anyone who wants to learn drumming, and provide a more rounded approach, rather than specialising in jazz, which is quite a niche genre nowadays!
I'd love to get you playing along to your favourite songs and even learning to create your own parts. Music is my passion, so please get in touch if you'd like tutoring and I'd be thrilled to get it set up!

About the lesson

Having played the drums for 10 years, and the guitar, piano and bass for 6, I've recently graduated from the Songwriting & Production degree at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). As a result of my own learning, I strongly believe that failure and discomfort are the best ways to improve your playing. This can seem quite daunting and frustrating, but having a tutor to encourage and uplift you during those times can be a massive help towards improving on, and painting a healthy relationship with an instrument. Having the right mindset for growth in your playing is just as important as the practice itself. It would be my pleasure to help you with both your playing and your approach, so that you can take my lessons and apply them to your own solo practice too. Lessons are typically an hour and I can teach all ages. I have a professional studio where I can provide lessons for all instruments, and I drive, so can also come to you if you live in the Guildford area and would like in-home lessons.
