About Luis

I am originally from the U.S. with a Hispanic background. I've spent my last 6 years teaching English in Spain as a language assistant at various locations and schools (auxiliar de conversación). This has given me a great appreciation for the English language as well as the Spanish language and culture. This is a combination I feel very proud of since it has enhanced my identity as an American, mixed with my Hispanic heritage. Hence, making me a balanced bilingual (language, culturally, geographically).

About the lesson

Since ESL (English as a Second Language) can include many topics and needs, I leave my lessons/tutoring open to the needs and wants of the student. I am very flexible with the approach. I am from the U.S., yet I am well aware of the differences in pronunciation, spelling, and grammar between the U.S. and British systems. I have gained a lot of insight while teaching in Spain since their schools mostly follow the British system, which has forced me to learn new ways while integrating my culture and grammar/vocabulary (U.S.) in the classroom.
As a language assistant in Spain, my main responsibility was to make the English language as engaging as possible primarily through games, project-based learning, and conversation, while keeping a classroom setting structure. Finally, I gained much experience in testing students for Cambridge/Trinity exams, especially in the speaking and listening sections, but I also assisted students with the reading/comprehension and writing sections.
This being said, if the student agrees, I like to make lessons meaningful and engaging by following the required subject while adding games, activities, project-based learning (PBL), and topic-based conversations whenever suitable.
Teaching is something that I truly enjoy and I like to make sure students always express themselves to their fullest potential, in the subject area and as an individual as well.
This is the main reason I always like to meet my students first, before committing. This is something I truly share with the Superprof website! I will always provide a free intro- lesson, in which I'll focus on any questions you may have a student, as well as a mini interview I will prepare for you, and ask about your needs and tutoring preferences, since out of experience, I know for a fact that we don't all work the same with every teacher/tutor!
