About Brian
I am a professional editor with more than twenty years in newsrooms and publishing. I founded Certain Risk, a daily news publication, in 2024 and have written and edited over 700 pieces for it. Before that I was managing editor of Moneylaundering.com, leading reporters in the U.S. and Europe and writing the newsroom's AP stylebook, and editor of KYC360, where I commissioned and edited work by current and former U.S. and European officials. I have also ghostwritten opinion pieces published by the Financial Times and Thomson Reuters.
I have coached writers at the CUNY City Tech writing center, taught ESL at Kaplan, and prepared graduate students for exams in Dubai. I hold bachelor's degrees in English and History from the University of Texas at Austin.
I have tutored every age group from elementary school students to adults, and have extensive experience teaching English grammar and writing to native and non-native speakers. I work through your draft with you, line by line, rather than returning it rewritten, so you keep your voice, understand every change, and write better on your own the next time. I teach students, graduate students and working professionals: essays, thesis chapters, resumes and reading.
