About George
I am a published First-Class Film BA(hons) graduate from the University of Kent, beginning an MSt in Film Aesthetics at the University of Oxford in Autumn 2020.
Across my three years as an undergraduate, I have supported colleagues via proofreading and 1:1 engagement with colleagues' coursework to advance their understanding of academic material and essay-writing confidence. I have also provided tutoring for GCSE-level mathematics and Trampolining to 4-15 year old students. This varied tutoring portfolio is demonstrative of my multi-disciplinary teaching capabilities and ability to communicate across all age groups.
My academic specialities include:
- Film Theory (Classical to Contemporary)
- Philosophy of Film (and Aesthetics generally)
- Silent Cinema
- Philosophy of Language
- Film Sound
- Documentary
However, my interdisciplinary ethos has led me to support colleagues across all areas of film and the Humanities more generally. This has included film essays on genre, avant-garde, modernism, feminist theory and film screenwriting. I have also offered feedback on papers from disciplines such as Architecture, Philosophy, English and more.
I am fluent in Harvard, APA and MLA referencing styles.

My method largely relies on the student being proactive in their learning. The first (free, shorter) session will allow us to break the ice and learn more about your syllabus. Tell me what you want to know! This will be key to me knowing what is most needed from me, and for you to learn if I am the right tutor for you.
You can see my primary research areas below, but I have adopted a multi-disciplinary approach that has exposed me to all areas of film and media studies. Our first session will allow me to note which content that you're most interested in, or what subjects you might want to write about in an essay.
From there, we can build a custom-made plan of action, outlining steps for research, readings, coursework and so on.
When it comes to essays, my method relies on verbal communication with students. I support students from the early stages of essay planning through to the final stages of editing at all academic levels across the humanities.
Working at a 1:1 level, I push students to articulate their argument before beginning to write their piece. Consequently, weaknesses in knowledge of academic material or useful citations become apparent. We will figure out these weaknesses in our first (shorter, free) session.
With this, we can begin outlining a tailored plan for research and essay structure. This may take place over multiple sessions, or just one (with apt preparation time). The weaknesses are thus eliminated and each projects' fulfilling and creative potential is unlocked.
Get in touch, and we can look at our next steps. I love studying Film and Media, and hopefully you do too!
