About Shayla
Greeting Students!
My name is Shayla, I am a graduate student studying Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University. In addition I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern New Hampshire.
I have been fascinated with social science since I was very small, and have studied psychology at an amateur level for 12 years, and at an academic level for almost 4 years. I am intensely passionate about learning and education and I am eager to share what I have learned with the future generation of learners.
When I am not learning or teaching I enjoy playing bass guitar, going to concerts, painting, and eating as much delicious food I can get my hands on.
I have developed my unique tutoring style using skills and knowledge I have learned throughout my education, and personal life experience. Borrowing from concepts such as collaborative learning and Montessori style teaching, I believe my method is a more personal and effective approach to learning.
As a student myself, I too am on this academic journey with you. Although I feel confident in my expertises and ability to teach these concepts, I consider myself a lifelong student and acknowledge learning is never finished. So let's have some fun and learn something new together!
Happy Learning!
Shayla

My teaching approach is centered around personalized and collaborative learning. I understand that every student is unique, and as such I tailor my methods to suit your individual needs.
-What you can expect:
Comprehensive Understanding: We break down complex concepts into easy-to-understand chunks, ensuring you grasp the fundamentals thoroughly.
Interactive Learning: Engage in lively discussions and thought-provoking exercises to make learning enjoyable and effective.
Practical Application: I emphasize practical application to help you bridge the gap between theory and real-world scenarios.
-A Typical Lesson Plan:
Introduction: We begin by setting clear learning objectives for our session(s). And discuss your individual learning style and preferences.
Concept Exploration: Dive deep into the topic with a clear explanation of key concepts, illustrated with real-life examples.
Engaging Discussions: Stimulating discussions to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.
Hands-On Activities: Practical exercises and activities to help apply what you've learned.
Question & Answer: An open forum for you to ask questions and seek clarifications. Asking questions is the most important thing a student can do, and I strongly encourage this exploration.
Homework & Assignments: As someone who has studied education I have learned the ineffectiveness of homework. However, some concepts just need to be practiced regularly outside of our sessions. Although homework and assignments will be minimal, when given they will be customized to your personal learning style, and building them will be a collaborative process.
Feedback & Progress Evaluation: Regular feedback to track your progress and make necessary improvements.
-What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
I want to understand your unique learning style and pace, adapting my teaching methods accordingly. I believe learning is more effective when it is engaging, collaborative and fun. I am committed to personalization and flexibility within my teaching.
I myself am a graduate student, studying the topics I teach. I am extremely passionate about education and the social sciences and love sharing my knowledge with others. I believe my genuine interests and love of these subjects, as well as my love for learning comes through in my teaching and can be contagious to my students.
