About Matthew

Welcome.

As a highly qualified English teacher with over 20 years of national and international experience, I am deeply committed to helping every student achieve their potential.

For those preparing for exams, or wishing to develop their effective language skills for work, travel or social activities, structured preparation can make all the difference. My outcome-focused classes are carefully tailored to each learner, ensuring clarity, confidence, and measurable progress towards their target grades.

Lessons are calm, supportive, and highly structured — helping students feel secure while developing independence and academic resilience.

Experience from Within: An Edge in Exam Preparation

My experience extends beyond teaching into exam development and marking, providing students with valuable insight into how assessments are designed and graded.

Official Examiner – Experience examining Irish State Exams up to Leaving Certificate Higher Level.

My teaching approach is:

Student-centered and highly personalized

Rigorous but supportive

Focused on critical thinking and genuine understanding

Explicit in teaching exam technique

Lessons are interactive and dialogic, with clear, actionable feedback so students always understand their next step.

Inclusive Support: Learning for Every Student

Every learner deserves to feel capable and understood. I am committed to providing inclusive, differentiated instruction that builds both skill and confidence.

I understand that bright, capable students can struggle in traditional classroom settings — not because of ability, but because they need the right strategies.

Specialist Support in Special Educational Needs (SEN)

A central focus of my practice is supporting students with additional learning needs, including dyslexia, autism (ASC), ADHD, and anxiety-related barriers to learning.

Absolutely superb! We engaged Matthew for my son in 6th year, who has dyslexia and ADHD. His approach, way of working and engagement with my son was second to none. The outcomes were remarkable, significant increase in grades as well as confidence. I couldn't recommend Matthew more - if you're thinking about it, just do it.

Matthew was recommended by a friend of mine to help my son who was struggling with higher level English. Matthew gave him great insight into essay writing and referencing. Especially with comparative text. His advice was clear and consice. He was able instruct my son on how to get his knowledge of texts translated into essay form. His patience and guidance really boosted my son's confidence to tackle exam questions and not feel overwhelmed. We are really grateful to Matthew for his input and would highly recommend him to anyone who needs scaffolding when it comes to sitting exams. Thank you so much Matthew for all your help.
