About Vanessa
Hello! My name is Vanessa- the most important thing you need to know about me is that: ☆ I'm committed to helping you achieve your goals, smash those results, help your confidence ☆I'm chill about everything else ☆I'm dreaming about the day that nandos introduces a full vegetarian menu... I have graduated with a First Class degree in Sociology and Anthropology, have also taken classes in Archaeology, Politics, International Relations, Data Studies, and Philosophy, so I have a nuanced understanding of the social sciences and the humanities that helps me to further deconstruct tough concepts and really help them stick in a fun and engaging way! Previously, I have created workshops around mental health, diversity and wellbeing that I have delivered across schools in Birmingham. I was also a student ambassador for the Social Sciences Department for the University of Manchester so I know these subjects (the safe, the scary, and the boring-but-must-be-done) inside and out. With a firm understanding of how to meet assessment objectives, structure essays, and engage with source material and theory, I guide students to master both content and exam technique. Whether it’s unpacking sociological theory, analysing literature, building historical arguments, or exploring anthropological perspectives, I can help you achieve your academic goals while developing your confidence and interest in the subject.

I am passionate about creating a safe space that allows you to grow, experiment and challenge yourself. I am also a big advocate for teaching in fun and insightful ways to accommodate different learning styles and neurodivergency. My tutoring style is; ☆student-centred ☆encourages critical thinking and independent analysis ☆develops your unique exam techniques Each session is carefully structured around the student's current ability, learning goals, and the specific demands of their exam board. As I continue to get to know you, I will motivate and push you further to achieve more and grow your confidence. My lessons incorporate a mix of content review, exam-style questions, interactive discussion where we explore your lived experience, contemporary news, and films and media to further engage your independent thinking skills. I also use regular progress checks that we co-produce together and adapt my teaching style to suit each learner’s pace and preferences, ensuring sessions are engaging, effective, and supportive. Interested in learning with me? After you shoot me a message, we will organise a free 30 minute call where we explore your strengths, weaknesses, goals and intentions with your tutoring journey. From this, you can also see if I'm the right fit for you! Before our first session, I will outline a tutoring journey plan that I will share with you during our session, allowing you to add and subtract to it. This copy will be shared with you and will be continuously updated so we know we're on track. I will also help you with exam prep, essay writing and university applications.

Vanessa and I completed our sociology and anthropology degrees in the same class, so I know her academic style well. She‘s a great person to speak to if you need to get more passionate, excited and clear on social issues. She’s a very open minded, clear person and I have always found the way she explains things to be really helpful! I think Vanessa would be the perfect tutor for anyone students who need a little help caring about sociology or anyone who is super passionate and needs support connecting that passion to exam results! You’re in great hands with Vanessa
