About Muhammad

My name is Muhammad Ahmad Abdullahi. I am 26 years old and I'm from Nigeria. I am a native English speaker. I have lived in Turkey for 10 years so, I also speak Turkish fluently. I'm interested in teaching and learning languages, travelling, gaining new experiences, meeting different types of people and learning new cultures. I think meeting new people, learning about their stories and cultures is one of the most amazing things a person can do. And I try to do that through travelling, learning, and teaching languages.

I started teaching English when I was in university. Some of my Turkish friends needed to improve their English in order to understand the lectures better. So I started giving them private lessons just to help out. I always loved teaching, even when I was young. Whenever I helped my brother with his homework or taught a friend something at school, I always felt so happy and proud that I helped someone get better at something. Teaching also helped me understand things better. It was a joy every time I taught someone something. The more I taught, the more I understood that particular subject and got more interested in it. That was how I realized my love for teaching.

So, after university, I started giving more private lessons here and there to friends. People started recommending me to their friends and family after taking my lessons. That's how I got into teaching.

I went from teaching my friends, to teaching their friends and families, to teaching my professor's children. Then, I started going to schools to give speaking-practice classes once or twice a week in some schools. Before I knew it, I was giving English lessons in 3 different schools and teaching had become my full-time job.

After a while, I decided to slow down and get my TESL certifications. Then I got into a more organised routine of giving private lessons and teaching at languages courses. Currently, I am the head of the English department at a language course. We teach general English alongside business English, and prep people for tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, etc. We also have a speaking cafe next-door and I mainly organize activities for the cafe. I kind of miss teaching, that's why I decided to get back into private lessons. Hope I meet some awesome people that are willing to improve their English in a spectacular manner.

About the lesson

Having lived in Turkey for 10 years, I am an expert at bridging the gap between Turkish and English. I know the similarities between the two languages and the most common mistakes made by beginners. I take full advantage of this and apply it to my teaching.

I have a practice-based teaching method. We do many activities in my lessons, but the main principle of my lessons is PRACTICE/APPLICATION. From day 1 you will start practicing and learn quickly with engaging activities. You will learn about the culture, the similarities between English and Turkish, common mistakes made by beginners and how to avoid them, how to get a good accent from the start, and most importantly, how English is spoken daily by native speakers. All in a fun and interactive way, just like chatting with a friend.
