About Hannah

I was a student who excelled when I was in elementary school, and once self-studying became a part of learning in middle and high school, I really struggled. I know how hard school can be for students who think differently, have a hard time with motivation or become easily discouraged, and I want to help with that.

I used to be a kid who really disliked school, but had a few stand-out teachers who inspired me and motivated me to keep trying. Teachers and mentors who are encouraging, rather than telling students that they aren't trying hard enough or other similar statements, motivated me to do my best. They made my work and effort worth it. I thought to myself "I want to be like them so other students feel like they have a chance, like school and learning can be fun."

In my last year of high school I took a college level Intro to Education course and completed over 30 hours of student teaching. I worked half the semester in a K-2 music classroom and the second half in 3rd grade English, specializing in small group work.

I hope I can inspire, encourage, and motivate students to fall in love with learning. I want to be able to provide hope that school won't always be hard, and asking for extra support is never a bad thing. Anything that can help you succeed is incredible and you should be proud for taking those steps!

About the lesson

I first like to get to know who I'm teaching; what they struggle with, what motivates them, things they like and dislike--beyond the teaching setting.
I like to plan lessons around something a student is struggling with and break it down into smaller chunks, and I try to have multiple ways to explain the same concept to ensure the student is able to understand what they are learning.
I'm a huge believer in positive reinforcement and focusing on turning struggles into positives. I like to make learning comfortable and fun, as someone who was easily discouraged when I was in school, I want to help so students don't have to experience that themselves.
My lessons are for any student's regular classwork or preparing for class tests. Students that struggle with literacy and comprehension for their age range, students who need spelling and grammar help, and even students who are ESL learners are who I am here to help!
