About Matthew

My name is Matthew, and I am a TEFL-certified English tutor with a Master's degree from UCLA and 3 years of experience teaching ESL in Japan. I also have professional experience in study abroad and international education, which helps me understand the challenges students face when learning English for school, travel, relocation, or daily life.

I create lessons that are friendly, structured, and practical. My goal is to help students feel more comfortable speaking English while improving their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and overall confidence.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching movies, especially foreign films, trying new restaurants and foods, and spending time with my two corgis. I like bringing my interests and real-life experiences into lessons to make conversations more natural, relaxed, and enjoyable.

I believe learning English should feel supportive, not stressful. I give clear feedback, encourage students to speak as much as possible, and adapt lessons to each student’s level, goals, and interests. Whether you are preparing to study abroad, improving your conversational English, or helping your child build confidence, I would be happy to support your learning journey.

About the lesson

My lessons are friendly, structured, and focused on helping students use English with more confidence in real-life situations. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, goals, and interests, so the class feels useful, practical, and comfortable.

A typical lesson may include a short conversation warm-up, vocabulary practice, pronunciation correction, grammar support, reading or listening activities, and guided speaking practice. I like to give clear feedback and help students understand not only what to say, but how to sound more natural in English.

My lessons are especially good for ESL students who want to improve conversation skills, pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and confidence. I can also help students preparing for study abroad, travel, school, or everyday communication in English.

As a TEFL-certified tutor with ESL teaching experience in Japan, a Master’s degree from UCLA, and professional experience in study abroad, I bring both teaching experience and real international education knowledge to my lessons.
