About Brad
You don't learn how to play a game well until you understand game theory as applied to that game. Understanding the application of game theory makes you a better player. Understanding sportsmanship makes other players want to return to play you.

Game theory in chess is all about what is the worst the other side can do to you if you make the move you are about to select. Opening systems are important to know so that you don't run into something you've never seen before. The theory behind the structure of a given opening allows you to explore variants that are unfamiliar to the opponent pursuing them.
Game theory in backgammon is similar, but there are other factors that you can employ that include computation of odds and duplication of numbers. I paid my way through college playing backgammon.
