About V Karthikgayan

If your child understands English but struggles to show it under pressure, or keeps losing marks despite genuinely trying, that's usually not a sign they're behind. It's often a sign nobody has explained things in a way that fits how they think, and that's exactly the gap I work on closing.

I'm 18, from Selangor, and I graduated from Oasis International School with an American High School Diploma and a CGPA of 4.17. I'm currently studying for a Bachelor of Music Performance at Sunway University.

I started tutoring because I was the kind of student who needed things explained a second way before they made sense, so I understand what that frustration looks like from the other side. Since then I've taught primary school students, exam candidates and adults preparing for IELTS, and I've seen the same pattern hold true every time.

I'm reliable with scheduling, I prepare before every lesson, and I'll tell you honestly if I don't think I'm the right tutor for your child.

About the lesson

Every lesson is built around one clear goal, so you'll always know what we're working on and whether your child actually got there by the end.

With a new student, I start by finding the real gap rather than guessing. A child losing marks in comprehension needs a different approach than one losing marks in essay writing. That's what the free assessment lesson is for.

I work with primary and secondary students at any level, SPM and IGCSE English candidates, and non native speakers from Mandarin, Bahasa Malaysia, Vietnamese, Korean and other language backgrounds. I also teach IELTS and TOEFL candidates, and students who understand English well but freeze when they have to actually produce it.

Depending on what your child needs, we work on:

- Essay structure and argument
- Reading comprehension, including how to read the question before reading the passage
- Grammar, from the basics through to advanced writing
- Speaking confidence and pronunciation
- Exam technique and timing

I build understanding before drilling any rule, since a child who memorises something without understanding it usually loses it exactly when it matters most, under exam pressure. Once a concept is clear, we practise until it's automatic. I adapt explanations to your child's first language and how they think, and no question is ever too basic to ask.

After every lesson, I send you a short summary covering what we worked on, what improved, and what to focus on before the next one.

Details

Packs are for students working towards a fixed goal — an SPM or IGCSE paper, or a term of steady improvement. Booking a block means the slot is reserved for you each week and the rate drops.

5 hours — RM300 (RM60/hour)
10 hours — RM560 (RM56/hour)

Packs are used at one lesson per week unless we agree otherwise. Unused hours carry forward; lessons can be rescheduled with 24 hours' notice. Materials and practice work between lessons are included at no extra cost.

The first 30-minute lesson is free and doesn't come out of any pack. Start there; there's no reason to commit to a block before we've both seen whether this works.
