About Nicole

I am Dr. Nicole James, an experienced educator with an Ed.D. in Reading and Literacy, an M.Ed., and an MBA. I have taught writing at both the middle school and college levels and have years of experience helping students strengthen their reading, writing, and academic skills.

My experience includes teaching college writing, working as a writing coach, supporting students with college essays, and providing individualized academic instruction. I also understand that strong students sometimes need support too—tutoring is not just for students who are struggling.

I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I bring patience, high expectations, encouragement, and real classroom experience to every student I work with. My goal is simple: help students become stronger thinkers, better writers, and more confident learners.

About the lesson

My lessons are personalized, supportive, and designed to help students become more confident and independent learners. I work with students in grades 7 and up, including middle school, high school, college, and adult learners.

I specialize in writing, essay development, reading comprehension, grammar, academic writing, college essays, and study skills. Rather than simply correcting a student’s work, I teach students how to recognize what needs improvement and give them strategies they can use independently.

A typical session begins by identifying the student’s immediate goal or area of difficulty. From there, we break the task into manageable steps, model the skill together, practice it, and gradually move toward independent work. Students are encouraged to ask questions, revise their thinking, and understand the “why” behind what they are learning.

With experience teaching writing from middle school through the college level, I understand that every student learns differently. My goal is to meet students where they are, build on their strengths, and give them practical tools they can continue using long after our sessions end.
