About Saige

As a former ELA and science teacher, I am passionate about education and finding that "aha" moment- the moment where everything clicks and you are genuinely learning. I have a degree in English Education from the Ohio State University with a 3.94 GPA. I taught in a middle school for 6 months before realizing that my path is leading me elsewhere. In the past, I have tutored students from kindergarten all the way through seniors in high school. With me as your tutor, you will develop an understanding of your topic that will carry on to future classes as well!

Education has always been my passion. Ever since I was five years old, I have wanted to be a teacher. It has always been what I wanted to do with my life; whether I'm in the classroom or tutoring, I believe that education is the key to your future, and I am here to support you along the way.

I have a bachelor's degree in English Education from the Ohio State University, with a GPA of 3.94. During that time, I had 3 semester-long student teaching placements, one of which was a tutoring position 3 times a week for two students. I also had a year-long placement lead teaching English at a high school level. This past fall I worked as a middle school science and ELA teacher in Brooklyn, but realized my path was leading me elsewhere.

About the lesson

I take a strengths-based approach to learning- find out what you are strong at, and use that to help develop skills in other areas. The first thing we will do is go over what you've done in class so far, and look at previous work samples in whatever area you need help with. If I am helping you write essays, I will look at old essays, for example. Then, I give glows and grows on your work, and together we make a plan for improving your skills.

I have worked with students in kindergarten, first grade, and 6-12 grade, as well as freshmen in college. Primarily, I have taught English- both general and AP- but my most recent teaching job was teaching 6th grade science, so I am able to tutor multiple subjects if needed.

I recently put on a science fair for my 88 students. They designed their experiments, tested them, and made posters to present to the school and parents, and I managed all of the materials, documents, and projects as they completed them in groups of 3-5. This event was really special for me as it took weeks of work on their end, and weeks of work for me as well. To see it all come together at the end was one of the best feelings I've had.

Details

I am flexible with pricing and what works for your family. My rates begin at $25 for a 30 minute session, or $40 for a 60 minute session. I offer weekly rates as well if you would like multiple sessions per week.
