About Ami

I love working through the hard things and helping a student get to the point where they fully understand what they are learning.

I love working with kids. My favorite thing is working with a child that is struggling with something and they start to understand it and the moment the lightbulb turns on and they fully understand it. The excitement and pride that they feel makes me so happy.

I got started teaching as a substitute. I loved working with the kids, but we moved away from that school system. I then started homeschooling my kids and have been teaching grades first through eighth grade (my oldest is in ninth grade this year). I have also taught ages 5 to 18 in our homeschooling co-op.

I have worked with a variety of ages. I substituted for elementary and middle school for 2 years. I have been homeschooling my two kids for 6 years and I have also taught in our homeschool co-op during those 6 years. I have also been teaching Chinese children online for the last 4 years too.

About the lesson

When I am starting with a new student I figure out where the student is at. If they are older, I ask them what they want to accomplish during tutoring.

I have worked with children with ADHD, anxiety, and those learning English. I have taught ages 4 to 17 online and in person.

Make sure that you are comfortable with your tutor. Your tutor should involve you in your learning. If they do not talk to you about what you want to learn or want to improve on and they ignore you if you ask, find a new one. But, also give the tutor a chance to show you and guide you through the subject. They may have a plan that will work in the end. It is all about communication.

A recent event that I have been fond of is working with a four-year-old online to learn to speak English. We meet once a week and he has really been improving and it makes me so happy to see how far he has come.
