About Johanna
Joey Tutoring is run by me, Johanna, a self-motivated individual with 7 years of teaching experience. Currently, I work as a Second Grade Special Education classroom teacher in Brooklyn, New York. I am certified in "Students with Disabilities, Grades 1-6."
I have the capability to assess students’ abilities, strengths, and areas of growth. I am comfortable teaching in an online environment and I communicate with parents/guardians on a consistent basis to discuss their child’s progress. I believe I would be an asset to any child as his/her online tutor. I'm excited for this new opportunity!
I love to see my students succeed and challenge themselves.
I obtained my Master's Degree in Literacy Education, Birth-Grade 6 from Queens College. I have credits toward obtaining an Advanced Certificate in TESOL.
I have been receiving ongoing training in Teacher's College since 2013, a Reading and writing program by Columbia University; and training in Metamorphosis since 2013, a hands-on Math program. I have training in Flocabulary, a vocabulary program, and training in ASD Nest, a program for students with autism.

My typical process for working with a student is getting to know them first, by asking simple questions such as "What is your favorite subject? What is your favorite activity to do? Favorite genre to read?" Then, depending on the tutoring subject we are working on, I will do assessments within that subject. For example, if a student begins tutoring in Reading, I will have him/her read a list of sight words/high-frequency words, and a short fictional passage with comprehension questions afterward.

Very thorough educator. Ms. Clarke uses lots of visuals , manipulatuves, and charts to explain how to solve math problems. She shows examples and shows step by step hpw to solve a problem and different ways to approach a problem. I highly recommend Ms. Clarke, oh and to top it off if is a certified teacher that teaches in a public school setting and has experience teaching a variety of different grades on the elementary level.
