About Lucy

I’m Lucy, a 25-year-old Law Graduate who works in Property Law. As you can imagine, I do a lot of reading! I love English and received an A Grade in English Literature at A Level. My real passion is for helping students to enjoy English as much as I do- it doesn’t always have the best reputation for being fun. My goal is to help students make sense of these subjects not only so that they can pass exams but also be able to apply their knowledge in their own lives and enjoy doing so.

About the lesson

I am very focused on meeting specific needs and goals my students wish to work towards. I will assist with maths and English skills from Key Stage 2 to GCSE and English Literature at A Level, although my speciality is secondary school students. I hold an A grade at A Level and hold my Law Degree from the University of Surrey, where I tutored other students during my degree. I generally work in hour long sessions on a weekly basis but I am happy to tailor to specific students’ needs.

For earlier key stages, I will help to make learning a little more fun, focusing on areas we’ve struggled with through games and fun exercises. For more advanced students, particularly at A Level, I start by discussing which areas my students feel require the most work-looking back at marked work and practice tests. From there, we will create a target list of goals we wish to improve on, tailored to the individual student with measurable goals.

Using our goal list, we will focus on one skill for a week or two at a time, using materials from school such as homework or my own resources. Then, at appropriate intervals I will create practice tests for my students to work on, which we will then mark and review together so that we can reflect on progress and areas of improvement. I will always try to tailor my work to my student, so happy to discuss other methodologies where appropriate.

My prices will be affected by the level of teaching.

For Key Stage 2 students, my fee is usually £30 per hour.

Generally, for GCSE students I charge £35 per hour and for A level I charge £40 per hour.
