About Sumaita

I am an undergraduate student. I have privately tutored middle school students transitioning into high school. I currently tutor both graduate and undergraduate students (both native and non-native English speakers) at my college's writing center. I assist these students with essays, class assignments, and various applications. I focus on critical reading and thinking skills. I have had this position for 2 years now. In the past, I was extensively involved with journalism. My practice with publishing articles on a daily basis resulted in very strong writing, editing, and analytical skills.

About the lesson

My teaching method is based on the Socratic method. I provide examples and definitions to the students, but also ask them critical thinking questions about their work so they can identify their own strengths and weaknesses. English is a very difficult language to master, and the content is as important as grammar. Correct grammar matters, but not as much as being able to understand a context or a reading. I hope to foster curiosity within my students and expand their interest in literature. I hope to lessen any insecurities they have regarding writing and reading.
