About Donna

I’m a native English and Dutch speaker, born and raised in the Netherlands. With international roots spanning Dutch, Native American, Chinese, and Indonesian cultures, and family all over the world, I grew up bilingual.

I graduated in psychology, and first began tutoring English to students more than ten years ago. In 2020, I started offering private one-on-one lessons as a freelancer, alongside my work as an in-house copy editor for a publisher specializing in English and Dutch literature.

Over the years, I’ve slow-travelled and lived for extended periods in London, Barcelona, Paris, Nice, Sicily, and Naples, and I currently live between Bangkok and Bali.

I’ve always been fascinated by culture, and by how language reflects the way people think, communicate, and connect with one another. This interest has sparked a career I love and I am very proud of.

About the lesson

In my experience, learning English effectively is not just about understanding grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure, it’s also about connection, nuance, and feeling at home in what you say. My goal is to create exactly that space for you.

Learning something new should feel exciting, motivating, and enjoyable, not stressful or intimidating. I’m here to help you find your voice in Dutch and guide you gently, practically, and efficiently through your learning journey.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, want to improve everyday conversation, prepare for a life-changing exam, refine your writing or reading skills, or simply feel more comfortable using Dutch, I’ll support you from start to finish.

I place a strong emphasis on real-life language use, so you can confidently use Dutch both inside and outside the classroom. We’ll break things down step by step, using proven techniques and relatable examples, always working at your pace.
