About Joao G

I am a bilingual ESL (English as a second language) teacher born in Brazil. I moved to the U.S. when I was twelve years old, and since then, have fallen in love with the language with every day that goes by. Having previously worked at Literacy Volunteers of America - Danbury (Conn.) and Wizard by Pearson (Pearson Education), I am more than qualified to serve your linguistic needs in ESL and the language arts.

About the lesson

My teaching methodology is rather eclectic, meaning mixed. I generally start out with some audiovisual material, so as to make each student or tutee familiar with the language, and to avoid bad habits.
- I then dedicate some time to explain the context of the material;
- After the stimulus, I tend to have a grammatical explanations to parts where students are "lost," or that they have not fully processed.
- New grammatical concepts taught and exemplified;
- Students produce their own material, rather than copy off a preset "recipe."
- Guided and timed practice is my focus.

Cancellation policy - a fee of 50% (of hourly rate for students with one-hour lessons) shall be charged if the student cancels without a 24-hour notice.
For students with multi-hour package, 50% of total shall be charged if the student cancels without a 24-hour notice.
