About Emma

Currently, I am a freshman at the University of Chicago, possibly interested in double majoring in philosophy and computer science, with a minor in music.

I have experience with both special-needs and neurotypical students in elementary, middle, and high school. I have four years of experience teaching essay-writing, as well as six years of experience editing essay/article-style writing. I have tutored standardized testing (SAT/ACT) to the high school demographic for just under a year.

About the lesson

I specialize in ACT/SAT prep., essay-writing, and English for middle and high schoolers. In addition to engaging with unpaid peer-tutoring opportunities in high school, I also have several years of experience working with special-needs students. As a result, I am extraordinarily patient with students, as well as extremely flexible in my methods of teaching.

Having extensive experience studying for the SAT and ACT, I am very familiar with the format and demands of the test, as well as the importance of obtaining a high score for college admissions. With my familiarity with standardized tests' questions and the skills and strategies required to tackle them, a high score is perfectly attainable. I have done it myself, and with my guidance, so can you.

For standardized test prep., students will be expected to complete a full test every week. They will email the test to me three days before our lesson, granting me time to score and look over their mistakes. During each lesson, we will review these mistakes, ensuring that every concept tested is understood. On students' first lesson, we will discuss which standardized test they prefer to do (SAT or ACT), and do a preliminary assessment of their math, reading, and grammar skills.

I met Emma over a Facebook group in my community. She tutored my son, a ninth grader, for the ACT math and english sections.

She is meticulous, accessible, and competent. A great tutor, my son liked her straightforward and result-oriented method of teaching. Because of Emma, my son has been scoring higher on practice tests, and we expect a score competitive for his college applications.

Because Emma has so recently undergone the college process herself, she understands how significant standardized tests are in getting into good schools. My son commented that she gave him strategies specific to these tests, to budget time effectively and eliminate answer options quickly.

Don't hesitate, she'll fully invest herself in your success!!

Emma tutored my daughter for the SAT this past year. Her score increased from a 1350 to 1420, with improvements in both the verbal and math sections. Emma completely invested herself in my child’s success, was very methodical, patient, and kind. I can’t recommend her enough!!!
