About Sophie

Hello! My name is Sophie and I am offering tutoring services in English literature, American literature, Writing, Essay Writing, Creative Writing, AP English, and all related subjects within this field.

I have been a reading and writing enthusiast my whole life and I love helping others improve in these areas. The past few years I studied English Literature in London, England (the very best playground for exploring literature and its rich history!). I have a BA in English and I am currently completing my MS in Journalism at Columbia University in New York City. In addition to my academic background, I have worked for Penguin Random House as an editorial and publishing assistant. I have also worked as a professional literature critic and affiliate for various publishing companies such as Penguin Random House and Harper Collins.

I like to tell students that there is a book out there for everyone. Maybe you think you don't enjoy reading... or maybe you just haven't found the right book yet!

Of course, sometimes reading and writing just aren't one's cup of tea. In such scenarios, I truly enjoy using my own passion for these subjects to help others reflect their very best selves through their work.

I am optimistic and hardworking. It is important that I make my student feel safe, comfortable, and encouraged in the help I provide them. Most importantly, I am incredibly passionate about literature and I believe that this positive energy shows in the work and care I give to my students.

I love seeing students improve! It makes me so happy to help others discover interest or enjoyment in reading and writing. I believe that very often students are holding back from showing their true potential due to fear or doubt. My goal is to boost confidence, overcome these hurdles, and help them show their true knowledge and talent through their work.
