My teaching philosophy is centered on clarity, patience, and adaptability. I focus on building strong foundational understanding before moving to complex concepts. I tailor my approach to each student's learning style—whether they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners—using a mix of explanations, real-life examples, analogies, diagrams, and interactive exercises. I encourage active participation, critical thinking, and regular feedback to ensure students not only memorize, but truly understand the material. I often use the Socratic method—asking guiding questions to lead students to answers themselves—as well as scaffolding, where I gradually increase the difficulty and independence of tasks as the student gains confidence and skill. A Typical Lesson Plan Warm-up/Review (5-10 minutes): Brief recap of previous content or quick quiz to reinforce memory and assess retention. Introduction of New Topic (10-15 minutes): Clear explanation of the concept, supported by visuals, analogies, or demonstrations. Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): Work through problems or case studies together, encouraging the student to take the lead as they become more comfortable. Independent Practice (10-15 minutes): Student attempts similar problems or tasks on their own while I observe and assist as needed. Wrap-up & Questions (5-10 minutes): Summarize key takeaways, clarify any confusion, and set goals or homework for next time. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor I emphasize deep understanding over rote learning. I don't just help students pass exams—I help them think better. I am skilled at breaking down complex topics into digestible parts. I build strong rapport with students and foster a supportive, non-judgmental learning environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities. My background includes both academic achievement and real-world application, which allows me to connect theoretical content to practical use. Who the Lessons Are For I provide tutoring for: High school students preparing for exams like the ACT, LEAP, and/or AP English exams. University/College students studying undergraduate courses in subjects like English composition. Adult learners and professionals seeking to build specific skills (e.g., academic writing, public speaking, or business English). I welcome students of all levels, including those with specific learning challenges or those learning in a second language. My goal is always to meet the student where they are and help them get to where they want to be.
