About Mariel

I'm a certified social studies teacher in NYS, grades 5-12. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience, both in person and virtual, from grades K-12, specifically in social studies, reading comprehension, and writing.

I'm currently both teaching and tutoring and would love to help more students! From basics to AP, I have a wide range of experience and a lot of passion.

I love teaching. It might sound cliche, but seeing the moment a student realizes learning can be enjoyed brings so much joy to my life. I love the sense of accomplishment my students get!

My 9th grade social studies teacher inspired me! They showed me how a caring teacher can make all the difference.

I'm a certified teacher in NYS. I've taken courses on teaching literacy, as well as having taken courses and having experience with teaching both students with disabilities and gifted students.

About the lesson

First, I learn the interests of my students. I find out their goals, their current areas of improvement, and their likes/dislikes in terms of learning. Not every student is the same, there isn't a one size fits all method. I get a baseline of their comprehension, writing, and analytical skills. From there, I'm able to use different methods based on individual needs.

ESL; students with disabilities including learning delays, ADHD, and dyslexia: gifted students.

Learning doesn't have to be boring! There are many ways to bring history, reading, and writing to life. Never be afraid to ask for help, all of us need to!
