About Poppy
Hello!
My name is PoppyAnna. I am an elementary school teacher (3rd grade) at a small private school. I live in the U.S. and do online tutoring for students of all ages in a variety of subjects. Tutoring is a wonderful way to keep up with your studies over the summer or during the school year and your child will benefit from daily practice with key subjects. I specialize in English, ESL, Reading, Writing, and elementary Math, History and Science. I have been tutoring students for several years and am looking to expand! I would love to answer any questions you may have.
I started teaching right after college and soon found out that I had a passion for helping others learn! Seeing others grasp new ideas and figure out new solutions brings me much joy as I teach each day!
I teach third grade at a local private, Christian School. I have worked with students from pre-K through college and adult learners, but I specialize in elementary education. I have helped students write papers and stories, diagram sentences, tell the difference between a subject and a verb, and helped them explore the adventures of poetry and Reading. I have tutored in Math up to a Pre-Algebra level, specializing in multiplication and division, along with measurement problems, fractions, and decimals. I have also tutored in History and Geography, Science, Spelling, Reading, and Writing. I hold an Associate of Arts in General Studies, Summa Cum Laude, from the Baptist College of Florida.

I start out with a diagnostic lesson, where we go over the strengths and weaknesses of the student, along with the goals that the student/parent has for each particular subject. Then, we work day-by-day and week-by-week to accomplish that goal.
I have worked with students of all ages, from preschool through high school and into college. I have also worked with ESL for adults.
Look for someone who really cares about you and your strengths/weaknesses. Figure out a plan and try to stick to it, but don't be afraid to change if you discover a better way to learn. We are changing all the time, and the way we learn is too!
One of my students was struggling with Roman Numerals. He had been working on them for quite some time, but did not understand the patterns and where to add or subtract. He was frustrated with not being able to do his work, but we sat down together and went over the material, and he went on with a will to work. the next day, I gave him his Math paper to do by himself. When he returned it, I realized he had mastered Roman Numerals! We were able to celebrate that success and use it as a way to propel him whole-heartedly into the next topic.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What subjects am I most struggling in?
What do I need daily practice with, and what concepts do I still need to learn?
How can I make the best use of time (both mine and my teacher's)?
What personality type and schedules do I mesh with most?
