About Cassandra
Since 2011 I have been tutoring students one-on-one in a variety of subjects. My students learn to challenge themselves and become life-long learners.
I provide personalized instructional plans based on each student's interests and abilities. My approach is holistic: each child learns differently and I work to ensure they feel confident as learners! Once they are confident in their abilities and have set goals for themselves, they begin to achieve academic success!
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Rowan University (2009) and a Master's degree in Reading, Writing, and Literacy from The University of Pennsylvania (2012).

What I love the most is all of the little lightbulb moments throughout a session. We don't always have major breakthroughs, but each time we learn a new little skill or fact, those small successes compound into big progress!
Each student deserves a tutor who will make them feel confident about their abilities, no matter what their grades say. I love helping my students feel confident as learners so they will never be afraid to challenge themselves.
My first teaching job was at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Philadelphia. I left to move back to New Jersey and take over my dad's business so he could retire. However, I never stopped teaching! I taught part time in the evenings while running the store.
We sold the store in February and I am now a full time tutor working in-home and online!

The first session is spent asking a series of questions to get to know the student. We establish their strengths and weaknesses, and set goals. I speak with parents and students in an open conversation that lasts for 30-60 minutes. Based on the initial phone or email conversation, I will bring basic assessments with me to determine what skills we need to work on.
I have worked with students of all ages. I primarily am asked to address deficiencies in a student's schooling. Many of my students felt the pace of their schooling was too fast, and we work together to close the gaps in whichever subjects they are struggling.
Make sure that you find the right tutor who matches your personality. Expertise and professional credentials are important, but a good personality fit goes a long way! Find someone who will encourage you to challenge yourself, and will give their full attention.
A student I have been working with since she was in 5th grade worked her way out of basic skills Language Arts to Accelerated Language Arts for 8th grade. She then worked her way up to Honors English for Freshman year of high school! She is finding it to be a challenge, but not a difficult struggle.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What are your goals? What is your timeline for achieving your goals? What are your strengths and weaknesses? How do you think you learn best? What does your tutor NEED to know about you?
