About Crystal

I believe in teaching content to mastery in an engaging way that resonates with students through real life connections. I specialize in phonics, and I have certified in Texas through Pearson Testing Centers for Elementary Common Core (grades pre-k through 6th). I am also certified in Texas Pedagogy and have taught English Second Language Learners in Hong Kong for 7 months. I love seeing the pride and happiness when a student finally grasps a concept for the first time, because for a long time growing up- I was that student. I've learned so many different ways to reach students and love to share knowledge and watch them grow through their academic journeys.

My son has ADHD. It quickly became a problem for him academically, and I wanted to learn as much as I could about his particular diagnosis. So I began studying, teaching online from home so I could be close to his school, and then finally got certified as a brick and mortar teacher in the state of Texas.

English second language instructor, Special education teacher for IDEA Public Schools, and I teach all core elementary level subjects.

About the lesson

Building rapport by playing a short game using manipulatives such as choice game cards and or question dice, followed by assessing the students current performance level. Once the level and learning goals have been established, I create lessons based on the individuals preferred learning method.

ADHD, ODD, Autism, Intellectual Disability, Learning disabilities. Special education middle school grades 6-8 (My students benchmark from Pre-k level to 2nd grade, depending on each of their individual needs.)

Ask a lot of questions before you hire a teacher. Make sure you and your teacher or tutor have an in depth conversation about clear goal and expectation setting. There are many areas of abilities within each content area, so really try to focus on what things you want to work on specifically so your teacher can cater to and adapt to your specific needs.

One of my students with Autism brought me a gift card because he has a preoccupation with holidays and dates, so I made him his very own April Fool's Day lesson. He was so happy that I did that lesson for him, and it made me smile that he recognized and appreciated my individual attention to him specifically.
