About Sarah
I have taught hundreds of students to read in my 35+ years career. One story that stands out in my mind as I was walking through Walmart in my hometown I had a young man walk up to me and address me by my name and ask me if I knew him. When I answered in the affirmative he grabbed me hugging me and spinning me around (this was no small feat) He proceeded to thank me for making sure he did not leave my 7th grade reading class without the ability to read at the very least a newspaper—before he was in my class he was not reading at more than a first grade level—by the time he graduated from high school he could read on a functional level of about an 8th grader. This brought me great joy as well as tears to think I made that much of a difference in a student’s life
