Learning should be engaging, interactive, and occur in an environment of mutual respect and professionalism, particularly at the high school and college levels. I utilize games, simulations, stories, examples, and creative projects to enhance learning, rather than relying on rote memorization. My job is to develop and nurture inquisitiveness, exploration, and discovery.
One of the foundations of today's education is that no two people are the same. Their work rhythms, their behaviors in class and all the external factors that can affect their learning, cause logical mismatches in the temporary learning needs of each one. Some will need more time and others less to do homework and understand what is seen in class.
I normally instruct at undergraduate and post-graduate level with a prepared lecture, preferably with robust Power Point slides and integrating short video clips and other contemporary media while also encouraging student questions and interaction. Assigned readings help maximize the value of contact time between me and the students.
